Apple worked with Chinese automaker BYD Co. for several years on a battery system intended for its now-canceled car project, as reported by Bloomberg. The collaboration focused on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, where Apple provided engineering expertise while BYD contributed manufacturing resources. The battery was designed to be safer and offer a longer range than standard EV batteries. Although Apple halted the car initiative, insights from this project have benefited the development of other Apple technologies, including the Vision Pro and Neural Engine chip.
