Blue Shield of California has confirmed a significant data breach, notifying 4.7 million individuals that their private health information was shared with Google since 2021. The insurer admitted to using Google Analytics, which misconfigured allowed sensitive data, including personal details and health information, to be collected. Although the data sharing ceased in January 2024, the breach highlights ongoing concerns regarding online tracking in healthcare. This incident marks the largest healthcare-related data breach of 2025, following similar breaches in the industry. The responses from Blue Shield and Google remain unclear.
