Block, co-founded by Jack Dorsey, has laid off 931 employees, marking another significant workforce reduction in just over a year. The layoffs, disclosed in a leaked email, include 391 jobs eliminated due to strategic shifts, 460 for poor performance, and 80 managerial positions aimed at flattening the company's hierarchy. Dorsey emphasized that these changes are not financially motivated or related to AI replacements but are necessary for better execution and focus. Block's previous mass layoffs occurred in January 2024 when 1,000 jobs were cut.
