At CES 2025, Brooklyn-based startup Soliddd showcased its prototype smart glasses designed specifically for individuals with macular degeneration, a condition affecting approximately 13% of U.S. residents aged 40 and older. Utilizing proprietary lens technology that mimics a fly's eye, the glasses project images onto undamaged areas of the retina, allowing the brain to form clear, 3D images. Currently in beta testing, Soliddd plans to release the glasses in 2025 without requiring FDA approval. This innovation aims to make augmented reality more accessible for those with visual impairments.
