Spotify Invests Over $1M to Expand Non-English Audiobook Offerings
Spotify has announced a €1 million investment to enhance its catalog of non-English audiobooks, focusing initially on French and Dutch. This move aims to address the scarcity of audio content in these languages, as less than 3% of French-language books are available in audio format. The company launched its audiobook service in France and the Benelux region last October. High production costs have hindered audiobook adoption, prompting Spotify to partner with ElevenLabs for AI narration. Despite this, concerns about AI narration persist in the publishing industry.
