A new trend has emerged where users are employing ChatGPT’s latest models, o3 and o4-mini, to identify locations from uploaded images. These AI models can analyze and reason through pictures, allowing users to pinpoint cities and landmarks using subtle visual cues. While the tool demonstrates impressive capabilities, it poses significant privacy risks, as it could be misused for doxxing individuals. Although initial tests showed o3’s location accuracy, it also exhibited limitations, sometimes providing incorrect or vague results. OpenAI has yet to address these concerns publicly.
